Lord Stanley in Despatch 18 of 5th March, stated that H.M's. Government would contribute two thirds of the whole expense.
Sir John Davis in Despatch No.13 of 7th May, reported that Mr. Stanton, seemed to think that one third of the expense might easily be raised in the Colony from private contributions; that a very adequate Church could be erected for £9000 - Government should not contribute more than £4000. Expenditure exceeding £9,000, excess must be borne by the Community.
